Kauai (The Garden Island Newspaper) — The beginning of November is the time to pick up plants on Kauai as several organizations celebrate Arbor Day with tree giveaways. Friday, the state’s Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program will be giving away trees at the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife Baseyard and Nursery until from 8 a.m. 9 to 2 p.m. (read more).

Hawaii (Hawaii Magazine) – Nonprofit group Smart Trees Pacific is mapping trees around Hawaii, resulting in a growing appreciation for these island canopies.
There I was, standing in front of the Historic County Building in downtown Lihue one afternoon last November, wrapping a tape measure around the thick trunk of an old kukui when I realized it was official: I am a tree hugger. (Read more…)

Honolulu (Hawaii Public Radio) – Today we take you out and about with a hardy band of volunteers of Citizen Foresters.. Over the last two years, they have mapped some 6 thousand trees in Kailua. They are now in Honolulu tackling neighborhoods in Manoa and soon to be in Kaimuki. (Listen to the whole story here)

HONOLULU – (KHON2) Hawaiian Electric is getting ready to celebrate Arbor Day while helping the environment. It is giving away trees and shrubs this weekend at six different locations on Oahu. This year marks the company’s 25th year of giving. Tatiana Quong, senior community affairs consultant, joined Wake Up 2day to talk about it.
